Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud

In many corporate environments, critical career advice, unspoken norms, and pathways to advancement are often passed quietly; Behind closed doors, from mentor to mentee, parent to child. Access to these unwritten norms and best practices has historically favored those from advantaged backgrounds, while others have forged their own paths.

How do you follow career advice that wasn’t written for you? How do you advance in a corporate environment that wasn’t built for you or with you in mind? This event aims to bring these rarely discussed nuances in “career advice” to the forefront through deeply candid conversation with impactful leaders in the Portland Credit Union space.

The "quiet part" in "Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud" refers to the information, norms and best practices that are not always shared with or accessible to everyone. The “quiet part” also refers to the ways in which these deeper truths and existing inequities are often times glossed over, ignored, and rarely spoken candidly about.

This event will center belonging and empowerment by providing attendees with insights from panelists whose identities and experiences may reflect their own. We hope to help correct existing inequities by:

· Empowering attendees with fresh perspectives to approach their professional development authentically and in a manner that fosters a sense of belonging.

· Creating a space for candid discussion about historical inequities, individual experiences, and how we can work together to build a more equitable future in the credit union space (and beyond).

Panelists:

Luisa Herrera, Chief Experience Officer at Central Willamette Credit Union

Shelly Monahan, VP of Organizational Development at iQ Credit Union
